A project to build up to 1,000 new homes on the Chiltern’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) could be scrapped after the council launched a study into the plan.

Wycombe District Council's Task and Finish Group (TFG) announced that it will recommend that the proposals for development – dubbed ‘Greater Saunderton’ – be scrapped when it presents its findings to the Council’s Improvement and Review Commission (IRC) tomorrow (November 11).

Instead the TFG, led by Cllr Alex Collingwood, will recommend future development options for the village will be put forward by a Neighbourhood Plan, led by Bledlow-cum-Saunderton Parish Council.

Cllr Collingwood said: “We’ve taken the time to listen to input from local people and understand the issues and the challenges at a local level.

“Our recommendations reflect some of the practical suggestions which came out of the public listening events we ran as part of this process.

“Based on what local people told us at the meetings, I think we have found a sensible and pragmatic way forward for the village and the parish, which we hope will help Cabinet when coming to a decision on this very important issue.”

The TFG met with residents at two public events in September and October to get their views on the proposed developments before making their recommendations, which are listed on the council’s website at www.wycombe.gov.uk/.
