More people are having affairs in High Wycombe than in any other town in the country, according to data collected by a dating website.

A total of 2,119 of the town’s residents confessed to cheating on their husband or wife - representing 2.12 per cent of the entire population.

High Wycombe percentage of cheaters relative to its population is also higher than any other town in the country, comfortably beating local rivals Maidenhead (1.86 per cent), Aylesbury (0.78 per cent), Slough (0.59 per cent) and (0.26 per cent).

Princes Risborough was found to be Bucks’ least adulterous town with just 145 cheaters.

The ‘Infidelity Index’ was compiled by IllicitEncounters.com, a dating website for married people.

Bosses boast it creates an environment for “like-minded people” who are “looking for fun but don’t want to upset the applecart at home”.

IllicitEncounters.com’s spokesperson Christian Grant said: “The reason for the surge in subscriptions is that record numbers of married couples in Buckinghamshire are living together unhappily because they simply cannot afford to divorce.

“Spiralling house prices and living costs have made it financially impossible for couples to set up two homes following a split, so they struggle on while seeking excitement elsewhere.”
