Wasps boss focused on Wasps despite Baa Baas role

DAI Young has assured Wasps fans that coaching the Barbarians next summer will have no impact on his day job.

The Wasps chief was handed the prestigious role for the fourth time in his career this week and will coach the Baa Baas against England at Twickenham on May 26 and the British Lions in Hong Kong on June 1.

He said: “Never mind how many times I am invited it is always an honour and a role that I cherish.

“It is also a big responsibility to uphold the traditions of the Barbarians and to get the best out of the fantastic group of players.

“This will be even more so next summer. The annual game against England is big enough but to play the Lions on the first match of their own major tour is really the icing on the cake.

“We beat both England and Wales last time, which was nice, and hopefully we can get some more victories next summer.”

However, Young insists the role won’t distract him from Wasps.

He said: “My only involvement until the end of the season will be probably three meetings between now and June.

“I haven’t got any scouting duties or anything, so my one and only focus between now and the end of the season is Wasps.

“I wouldn’t enter into anything that would take me away from my commitments at Wasps.”
