Simpson injury 'not as bad as feared'

WASPS hope to find out today the extent of Joe Simpson’s knee injury.

The scrum half picked up the injury when he was trapped beneath a pile of bodies near the end of the first half and after being treated on the pitch he did reaappear after the interval.

He watched the rest of the game on crutches, but director of rugby Dai Young is hopeful.

He said: “It doesn’t look to be that bad. We took him off straight away. There was no way he could carry on but he feels it’s not as bad as first feared.

“We’ll have a scan and know more tomorrow.”

An injury for Simpson would be a massive blow to the club, who said goodbye to Nic Berry after the final whistle yesterday.

Berry was contesting the nine shirt with Simpson until he had to give up the game after one too many concussions.
