CHESHAM United are resorting to tried and tested methods in a bid to rekindle their form, with three former players being rushed back to The Meadow since their FA Trophy defeat to Barrow.

Rob Bartley and John Kyriacou returned to the club in the days following Chesham’s 5-1 home loss to the Conference club, and manager Andy Leese has followed that double swoop by also re-signing Inih Effiong.

Effiong played for Chesham on loan last season and the club believe they would have got promotion had he finished the season with them instead of being recalled to Boreham Wood.

However, this deal is permanent and will keep him at the club until at least the summer.

Leese said: “Inih is familiar to all at Chesham after his successful loan spell with us last season, and the chance to sign him was one we could not pass up.

“We have struggled to score regularly this season, and I am sure Inih will give us a lift in that regard.

“He is still only 21, hungry to play games and to go further in the game.

“It has been a busy week with JK and Bobby returning to the club, and I am very grateful to the chairman and Roger Payne for their support in getting these deals done.

“We are also grateful to all at Boreham Wood FC for their patience and willingness in getting the transfer completed in time for Inih to feature in our Christmas games.

“The squad is looking more competitive than it did last week, and the arrival of three new familiar faces will boost everyone around the club as we seek to get the season back on track.”

On the pitch, Chesham were denied a valuable league victory on Boxing Day by a late Chippenham equaliser.

Simon Thomas had put the Generals in front after 67 minutes, but Chippenham drew level after 78 minutes and that’s how it remained.

Tomorrow they host Barwell.
