Hanson back in the saddle after CMP Racewear call
5:00pm Wednesday 9th January 2013 in Sport By Alan Feldberg
The new CMP racewear team
HIGH Wycombe could be put on the motocross map this year after the formation of a new team lead by a two-time British champion.
Greg Hanson has been recruited to spearhead the CMP Racewear squad that will compete nationally this summer.
Hanson won the British 125 Championship in 1985 and added the British veteran’s title in 2011.
He finished third despite a disrupted season in 2012 but this year he is hoping to ride to glory in CMP colours.
He said: “It was so close last year but I still think I’ve got what it takes.”
However, Hanson has another focus now and that will be getting the best of the young riders around him.
Wycombe’s 18-year-old James Rutter will compete in the MX 2 National British Championships and has been set a challenge of finishing inside the top 20, but Scott Elderfield is the real hope.
The 20-year-old is returning to motocross after two years away and will race in the MX 1 National British Championships.
Hanson said: “He is as good as anyone in this country without a doubt.
“I think he can finish in the top five this season – that would be a good comeback year for him.”
Tony Saunders, Amie Goodlad and Todd Leadbitter complete the team which is being partially funded by the Wycombe shop.
