Blues boss: We don't have to sell

WANDERERS won't have to sell any of their talented crop of youngsters to balance the books during the January transfer window, said manager Gareth Ainsworth.

Blues have had to cut costs since a summer takeover from the Wycombe Wanderers Trust, with star striker Stuart Beavon being sold to Preston on the final day of the last transfer window.

But Ainsworth said he's not in a position to have to sell anyone else now the window has opened again - nor would he welcome any offers.

The Blues boss said he hasn't had any calls from opposing managers looking to take a star player off his hands and he hopes it stays that way.

He said: "There's no directive to get rid of anyone and there's no directive to bring anyone in. We'll see what happens in the window and take it from there.

"Wycombe's known as a club that always moves players on and I'd love to see my players go higher and higher, but on the flip side I'd love to see my players stay because that means we've got a strong team. It's a difficult position for any lower league manager.

"With regards big transfers the phone has been quiet, which is good."

Ainsworth said however he is hoping to send some of the inexperienced youngsters who haven't had much game time out on loan, having seen for himself how important it was for the development of Josh Scowen after the midfielder became a key player for the Wanderers chief.

He added he's not intending to do too much business himself during the window, and was tight lipped about whether there was money for him to spend.

Ainsworth said: "I have spoken to the chairman and the finances is something just between me and him.

"We won't be looking at spending huge money on bringing anyone in. Michael Harriman's done very well and performed well for us and if that's my one and only transfer so be it.

"It's not totally down that we're not going to sign anyone but the phone not ringing for anyone going out is the main thing and hopefully we can hold on to most of them."
