Blues' match-winner wants more of the same

Bucks Free Press: Sam Wood Sam Wood

WANDERERS winger Sam Wood is looking to add more goals to his game after putting the Daggers to the sword on Saturday.

The 26-year-old fired home his second of the season and his first at Adams Park to secure a battling win for the Blues over Dagenham.

And while Wood is striving to add more goals to his game, the former Brentford man – who has filled in at left-back this term - is happy to be a team-player providing Wanderers are winning games.

He said: “Defiantly [like to], I’m not really know for my goal scoring, normally it’s the big occasions, like the first game of the season.

“It’s nice and you want to score goals but I’m a team player, it’s about getting the three points, it doesn’t matter who scores to me.

“I played left-back at Brentford, then started to play left-midfield, so I like to think I can play both positions. I give 100 percent whether it’s left-back, left-wing, as long as I’m playing, I’m happy.”

While Wood was happy to get his name on the scoresheet, the squad was delighted to take the edge off the Daggers’ attack and keep a clean sheet.

He said: “Dave [Winfield] said last year they didn’t get any clean sheets and at 1-0 they ended up drawing or losing, so it’s a great feeling. We’ve kept a clean sheet, we’ve got the three points, and we’re looking up.”

Wanderers travel to Capital One Cup semi-finalists Bradford on Saturday and the players are focused on doing their own jobs, and not worrying about how the Bantams will be affected by their cup-run.

Wood said: “They’re a top team and they will prepare properly but we’re not going to worry about them, we’ll worry about us and make sure we do our jobs properly.

“We’ve got a week off, they have other things to focus on, so it might go in our favour but we’ve just got to focus on we’ve got to do.

“It’s nice that we’re looking up towards the play-offs and not down now at relegation, as there’s quite a big gap there now, but we’re just taking each day as it comes.”
