Wycombe's South West 1 East status under threat

Under intense pressure: High Wycombe RFC Under intense pressure: High Wycombe RFC

HIGH Wycombe RFC's relegation worries deepened after they lost to Coney Hill on Saturday.

It was a game they had pencilled in for points, but left with nothing after a heavy 39-5 defeat.

They remain second from bottom in South West 1 East with 16 points, from 17 games, but Swanage are just two points behind and will overtake them if they win their game in hand while third-from-bottom Newbury are four points better off than Wycome and also have two games in hand.

Those three teams are adrift at the foot of the table, with a nine-point gap separating them from the rest.

Wycombe's fate will probably be decided in the next four matches against the teams placed ninth, tenth, 11th and 12th in the table.

The third of those games is against Marlow, whose own form has nosedived. Their 32-13 defeat to Cheltenham on Saturday was their fourth loss in a row.
