MATT Holland will defend his Mixed Martial Arts British title at Wycombe’s second fight night next month, and he’s set pulses racing with a bold prediction.
Holland, who won the belt when he beat Kes Mamba in front of nearly 1,000 fans at Handy Cross in November, has backed himself to stop Simon Squires in the second round.
He said: “I will knock him out in the second round.
“I want to surprise everyone. I don’t want to just go to the floor.
“I’ve brought boxers in to help me and I’d like to stand up and fight and give the crowd something to watch.
“I’ll live up to it.”
It will be Holland’s first title defence but, despite tearing a muscle in his leg recently, he is confident.
He said: “Getting the belt is one thing but it takes a champion to keep it and I’ll be ready.
“I train three time a day, I live for it. I’ll be in shape.”
Holland’s contest tops another jam-packed bill on March 2 Also in the welterweight division, Trevor Hopkins will square up to Ben Underwood and Corey Cain will do battle with John Gilbert.
On the same bill, Wycombe’s Mike Maroudas – one of the stars of the first MMA show – will step up a weight category to take on Tier Blundell in the featherweight division.
In total there are 15 fights scheduled for the night, from bantamweight to light middleweight.
Tickets for the show have already sold out.
