REFEREE David Rose was an influential figure in Wasps’ home defeat to Sale on Saturday afternoon.
Apart from awarding the visitors a penalty try after Wasps’ first infringement in front of their own line, he also showed no hesitation in sin binning Charlie Davies and then Will Taylor within minutes of each other.
Sale ran in three tries while Wasps were down to 13 men, effectively killing the game off.
Director of rugby Dai Young said: “I thought the yellow cards were harsh, but you’ve just got to get on with it. Dealing with one sin bin is quite tough, dealing with two puts you under huge amount of pressure.
“I thought when it 15 on 15 the boys did really well. When you go down to 13 it’s always going to be tough and I think they scored 19 points in that ten minutes.
“Obviously that was the difference.
“To come in 16-14, we were happy with that and thought we were in a good position to kick on.
“But then we had the two yellow cards that took the game away from us. Once we went back to a full compliment I thought we did quite well.”
