Risborough cross fingers for relegation lifeline

PRINCES Risborough RFC are on the brink of putting their faith in a geographical rescue package as they look to avoid relegation out of the BB&O Premier Division.

They lost 21-12 at home to Gosford All Blacks on Saturday and are now 11 points away from third-from-bottom Bicester, with very few signs of a sudden return to form.

Chairman Andy Emmett said: “If we get on a run in the next month then something might happen.

“But let’s be realistic, we’re losing every week. We had a couple of good results over Christmas but Saturday wasn’t the greatest of results.

“You have to line up the teams around you and say they are the games you have to win.

“But even if we did get the results against the teams around us I think they’re just a bit too far away to be within striking distance.”

Second-from-bottom Harwell is their only realistic target. If they can overhaul them before the end of the season they might still be saved by results elsewhere.

As it stands, no one knows if one or two teams will be relegated out of the BB&O Premier. It all depends on the Southern Counties tables and which regions their relegated team are from.

Risborough will just have that to trust to luck though.

For now all they can do is try to win games, starting with a home game on Saturday against leaders Stow-on-the-Wold.
