GARETH Ainsworth’s half time prediction came true as Wanderers came from behind to beat Torquay United this evening.

Blues had utterly bossed the first half yet found themselves 1-0 down completely against the run of play to a side who had lost six games in a row.

But Ainsworth told his men at the break they would get the three points they deserved if they kept doing what they did in the first half, and the Blues boss was proved right as goals from Sam Wood and Matt McClure turned the game around.

He said: “I made a promise at half time to the lads, if they do the same thing again they’ll win the game. It was a big promise to make and I’m so pleased we came through.

“No disrespect to Torquay, I thought first half we absolutely dominated them. Someone gave me a stat that we had nine corners in 30 minutes, which is incredible. How we didn’t score was all credit to Torquay’s defending and the way Alan Knill’s got them organised.”

Victory for Wanderers was fully justified but they left it late to turn the tie on its head, with Wood’s equalising goal coming in the 76th minute.

Ainsworth said: “It’s a great result but it’s the way we won the game tonight.”
