STUART Lewis said he'll be in pieces by the time he's manager Gareth Ainsworth's age if he plays the same way as the Blues boss.

The midfielder praised his manager's role in securing an important victory at Torquay on Tuesday night as he set up the winning goal for Matt McClure.

Ainsworth is approaching his 40th birthday and his 600th professional appearance but is showing no signs of slowing down and Lewis said he's an example to the rest of the Wanderers squad.

He said: "How does he do it? I want some of what he's on. He's nearly 40 and he doesn't stop.

"Everyone's run out of things to say about him. I think at 40 I'll be sitting at home somewhere in pieces with all the games I've had. Somehow he dusts himself down every time.

"When you have a manager who wants you to play a certain way and he comes on and shows me and everyone else what he wants, if he comes on and does it you can't go far wrong."

Lewis said the team spirit Ainsworth has instilled was key to coming from behind to win at Plainmoor.

Wanderers were undeservedly behind at the break but kept going and got a justified win as Sam Wood followed up Lewis's shot to level before McClure won it.

Lewis said: "The spirit showed in the second half. We didn't lay down, we weren't taking anything less than a win, even at 1-1 when we got the goal there was only one team in it.

"This season that's the best we've played, winning second balls, how we kept it up front, the defenders - we were having a really good half. Gaz said if you keep doing this, we'll turn round

"At half time when we came in, if it had been a boxing match it would have been stopped. It was literally all us."

The only downer on the evening for Lewis was not getting on the scoresheet himself as his shot hit a prostrate McClure before Wood bundled home from a matter of feet.

He said: "I'll try and claim it. I can't believe Matt McClure was on the floor - he's a striker, he should be up for it.

"Obviously I need a goal - I haven't had one all year - but tonight's about the three points. I didn't care who score, whether it's me, the reporters, anyone, as long as we won 2-1."
