Pitch battle not a concern for Ainsworth

WANDERERS boss Gareth Ainsworth said he's not concerned about the bobbly state of the Adams Park pitch.

A poor playing surface meant Blues couldn't get their regular passing game going against Southend on Saturday, but Wanderers players and management refused to use it as an excuse for defeat.

The pitch looked ploughed up after being cleared of snow to ensure a Tuesday night game against Bradford City went ahead and it still looked threadbare at the weekend.

But Ainsworth said: "Pitches do have a lifespan and ours is probably well into its lifespan, and with the rugby on it and a bad winter it's been tough.

"There's nobody to blame - it's one of those things. Getting the Bradford game on was a tough thing and hurt the pitch as well. It's a combination of things but there's no excuses. It's the same for both teams.

"We can probably adjust things slightly if it's bad out there and I'll be checking it out. It's not an issue for me."

Winger Sam Wood said after the Southend game: "It's the same for both teams but it was bobbly out there.

"We have to play the pitch, which we tried to do but it didn't work for us today. We need to adapt to it a lot quicker then the other team."
