BEACONSFIELD keeper John Nydell could be just two days away from a Major Soccer League deal.

Nydell earned a trial with Tampa Bay Rowdies after sending them a highlights package from YouTube last month.

But they’ve been impressed by the real thing as well and extended his trial by two weeks.

Beaconsfield manager James Pritchard said: “I spoke to him last week and he says things are going well.

“He’s stuck up a bit of a rapport with their manager Adrian Heath [the former Everton striker] and the early signs are good.

“They’re happy and he seems really happy.

“They’ve extended his stay so he’s got until March 11, and that extension can only be a positive. It gives him a longer window of opportunity to prove himself.”

Nydell, who has played all 90 minutes of Tampa’s three pre-season games, is in competition with two other goalkeepers for two places.

Pritchard said: “It’s nearly decision time for Tampa.

“He’s played all three games and done well in them all. By the end of this weekend he should know if he’s got a contract or not.”
