Gaz: Play off talk banned until we reach 50 points

GARETH Ainsworth has banned talk of the play offs as Wanderers prepare for a four game spell that could determine their season.

Blues face the prospect of four matches in the space of 11 days and Ainsworth said continuing their winning run and climbing the table would be a fairytale.

But he still insists his first priority is staying up - and he thinks that will be achieved with one more victory, which will take them over the 50 point marker.

Only then will he allow the P word to be mentioned in the dressing room.

Ainsworth said: "I think maybe one more win is a defining moment of the season because that will take us over 50 points.

"Now we can go into fairytale Hollywood mode where we can kick on and achieve something higher, which is fantastic. We've deserved the right to talk about that.

"The players are buzzing, spirits are high. They are confident they can go higher and higher.

"My first priority and objective was to get safe and I'm still saying one more win will get us safe. I'll be more than happy when we get that.

"To be here from where we were in November [when Wanderers were bottom of the table], people have to stand back and go 'We've had a successful season'."

But he added: "I'm really proud the players are optimistic and positive and thinking like that but as a manager I have to keep my feet on the ground. I'm personally not looking at these four games defining the season.

"The players are the ones you should ask about the next four games and will it define the season. For me, we've more than put our mark on the map and I'm really happy with the way things are going.

"If there's a bonus after that I'm well up for that. I'd love that but I don't want to put any pressure on them for the next four games."

After tomorrow's trip to Rochdale Wanderers welcome high flying Rotherham and Northampton to Adams Park before facing the long haul up to Bradford on Tuesday March 19.

Ainsworth said: "If we beat them we drag them closer to us and we can climb higher and can start thinking about that word and getting up there.

"Sometime when you have a lot of games there's less training and it's more about momentum. If we can get momentum going it helps when you have a lot of games in close proximity. At the moment we have momentum on the back of two wins and we want to build on that."
