Cameron sets the pace for Wycombe Phoenix

WYCOMBE Phoenix Harriers warmed up for the English Schools Championships this weekend with a string of good performances at the Inter Counties Cross-Country Championships in Birmingham last weekend.

Cameron Almand, right, was the pick of them as he finished first Bucks athlete home in the U13s run, and seventh overall.

Coach Richard Claessens said: “This was a well-deserved result for an athlete who has worked hard and trained consistently as well as being prepared to apply himself to the business of improving his technique Also running were Mateusz Sliwinski and Kieran Gilfedder in the U20s, Bradley Lawrence and Ben Sutherland in the U17s and Joe Thrush in the U15s.

Meanwhile, in the girl’s events, Olivia Lowrie ran well in her first major championship in the U13s with Emma Delgado and Megan Styles finishing strongly in the U15s event.

Lucy Rogers shook off a week of illness to compete in the senior run while Georgina Russell continued her return to form in the U20s event.

Coach Jan Nash said: “Given the sickness bug which affected a number of our athletes last week everyone can be well satisfied with their individual efforts.”
