Wycombe celebrate dazzling ten days of glory

High Wycombe RGS year sevens won in St Benedict’s to make it three tournament victories in ten days
RGS HIGH Wycombe has a proud rugby tradition and that appears to be in safe hands as their year seven pupils returned to school this week laded down with silverware.
They have just won three trophies in a dazzling ten-day period and have now been tipped as Daily Mail Cup stars of the future.
The glory run began at a ten-a-side tournament in Tiffin at the start of March, when they won all their games, scoring 138 points and conceding just seven.
Will Roberts and half backs Henry Chillcot and James Baldwin electrified the day and helped Wycombe produce one of the most dominant performances the competition has seen, culminating in a 38-0 demolition against John Fisher School.
Just 48 hours later they were at it again as they stormed to victory at the Warwick 7s.
This time they amassed more than 230 points with just 31 conceded as RGS Newcastle, Millfield, Monmouth and Warwick School were all among their victims.
Chillcot and Baldwin were again instrumental, with Roberts, Aaron Bello, Efan Morris, Timmy Wraight, Oscar Thomas and Matvey Boguslavski also in fine fettle.
Wycombe completed their remarkable hat-trick last Friday when they won the John Fisher nine-a-side tournament.
In piercing cold, they went down 10-5 to St Benedict’s in their first game but rallied to beat Tiffin, Wallington and John Fisher to book a semi-final with Whitgift.
A crushing 25-0 victory followed, before Wycombe made up for their opening defeat with a 15-5 triumph over St Benedict’s in the final.
Coach David Durning said: “They are a talented group of individuals but their best qualities are that they really listen and are always keen to improve.
“I am incredibly proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing their progression in years to come. We may well be looking at the Daily Mail Cup stars of the future.”
