THE progress of Wycombe District Swimming Club translated to gold medals at the third weekend of the County Championships.

They won nothing in the long distance and relay events last year but have just returned to Handy Cross with three relay medals and two more in the distance events.

The 4x50 squad of Liam Jones, Connor Lewis, Ethan Carter and David Godridge set the tone with bronze in the men’s race and silver in the boys.

The girls team of Fiona Shaw, Beth Hirst, Tash Gary and Lauren Jones added another 4x50m bronze before Luke Thomas smashed his personal best by 30 seconds in the boys 1,500m freestyle.

However, despite leading for most of the race he was overhauled in the final 50m, taking silver by less than 0:00.20 seconds.

Dan Manner finished sixth in the same race.

Elsewhere, Fiona Shaw shook off a cold to win the 17 and over 800m freestyle, with Imogen Shepard and Tash Garry finishing fourth and fifth in the 800m freestyle.
