Chalfont put two past Wembley legend
DAVE Beasant might have saved a penalty in the FA Cup Final at Wembley during his time, but he was no match for Chalfont St Peter on the opening day of the season.
The 54-year-old answered a call to arms by North Greenford United but was powerless to prevent Chalfont St Peter beginning the new season on the front foot with a 2-0 victory.
Former Watford striker Scott Fitzgerald first beat Beasant after ten minutes, but his header was chalked out for offside.
However, the flag didn’t come to Beasant’s aid after 43 minutes when Daryl Atkins burst clear down the right and fired across the veteran into the far corner.
A second goal came after 67 minutes when John Carroll volleyed home Fitzgerald’s free kick, and that proved enough.
However, Danny Edwards’ men couldn’t make it two wins out of two on Tuesday night when they hosted Aylesbury United.
Alan Hedley gave them the lead after 24 minutes, but three second-half goals from the visitors sent Saints spinning to their first loss of the campaign.
They host Dunstable Town on Saturday before a trip to Potters Bar Town on Monday.
