Amersham gear up for last-day drama after rain wipes out lead
AMERSHAM's Thames Valley League title battle will go to the wire after rain dealt them a huge blow on Saturday.
Their match with High Wycombe was cancelled because of bad weather, giving them just a seven point return, but second-placed Finchampstead were able to get a game on at Eversley and they made the most of their opportunity to record a five-wicket win.
Their game was one of only two in the division to go ahead and it earned them 20 points, meaning they cut Amersham's lead at the top from 14 points to just one.
Each side has two fixtures remaining this season, but the gap between them is so small now that regardless of what happens in their games against Chesham and High Wycombe 2 next Saturday, the outcome of the Thames Valley League will be settled in a final down showdown between Amesham and Finchampstead and Shardeloes on September 7.
Elsewhere in the division, Beaconsfield's home game with Datchet on Saturday was cancelled, as was Chesham's fixture at Kew.
