Gaz: Players have proved Mansfield display was a blip
GARETH Ainsworth said he was delighted at the way his players responded from last week's defeat by Mansfield - a performance he said was just a blip.
The Blues boss said in the wake of a dire 1-0 home defeat at the hands of the Stags that some of his players were unrecognisable from the usual high standards he sets for them.
Fired up from that, Wanderers were a 96th minute equaliser away from beating leaders Oxford United on their own turf and Ainsworth was bursting with pride at the response his players showed.
He said: "Last week was definitely just a blip against Mansfield and I took a lot of the blame for that as the manager, but today the players were brilliant. I'm really pleased at the way they reacted.
"I said to Dobbo [assistant manager Richard Dobson] today, barring the result, what a performance. It was a great performance from the lads - what a reaction they have shown me.
"We don't have anyone to fear in this league if we play like that. We showed it by coming to the top of the league and narrowly missing out on all three points.
"We have to take the positives and I'm really looking forward to this week's training. I was down last week and I'm not totally elated this week, but I'm very proud, very satisfied, at the performance the lads gave me.
"With eleven men on the pitch we had every chance of taking the points today."
