Marlow star helps GB Korea to victory
NAOMI Riches is celebrating her sixth world championship gold medal after rowing to glory in Korea this morning.
She helped GB surge away from the field to win the mixed coxed fours in commanding style.
Riches, who also collected Paralympic gold last summer, has now won world titles in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2013.
She said: “This one is very special because I feel for the first time we set a race plan and executed it so well. It's the first time in all those years that I feel that we did everything 100 per cent.”
Riches, who also has a world championship silver medal and a bronze from the Beijing Games of 2008, was racing with a relatively new crew including Pamela Relph, Oliver Hester, James Fox and cox Oliver James.
But it didn’t show and their time of 3:16.12 was just shy of the world record the GB boat set at Eton Dorney last summer.
Italy finished second with South Africa third.
