Giles sets sail for Olympic waters
RIO in 2016 might be a bit early for Jordan Giles, but the 14-year-old from Marlow is hoping to take the next step towards becoming an Olympian in the coming months.
This weekend he will sail in six races at the Olympic venue in Weymouth, and over the next ten months he’ll compete over nine more weekends with a place in the GB training squad on the line.
Weymouth and then Gratham in September represent the first stage, with the GB winter training squad selected afterwards.
The top three boys and top three girls qualify automatically, while the selectors have four more wild card picks.
Giles won’t panic if he misses out this time though.
The squad will be revised next spring ahead of the European Championships.
