Wasps widemen can flourish at both ends of the field
A NEW defensive focus won’t slow down Wasps’ fliers this season. Brad Davis has spent pre-season organising the black and golds into a watertight unit that doesn’t leak tries as savagely as last year.
But instead of being shackled by the system, Christian Wade and Tom Varndell believe it will create even more opportunities.
Wade said: “We’re going to look to get more attack from our from the way we defend. You will probably see forwards getting into the game a bit more and the structure of attack change a little bit.
“You’ll probably see different players getting their hands on the ball all over the park and tries being scored by all players, not just the wingers.
“And we will probably get tries off turnover ball and force errors from other teams. We’ve got that potential. We just need to use what Stephen Jones has brought in in attack and Brad Davis in defence and bring those together.”
Meanwhile, Varndell said: “Supporters are going to see a more rounded Wasps this year.
"Brad has added something to the team that we were lacking last year. It won’t affect our game in a negative way.
"It’s only going to add things and hopefully we can pick up a few more tries from our defensive performances."
