Turner: It's going to be tough for Amersham now
CHESHAM CC captain Ollie Turner believes Finchampstead hold all the aces going into Saturday's title decider against Amersham at Shardeloes.
Turner’s team beat Amersham handsomely last weekend and he thinks that result could well cost their neighbours the Thames Valley League title.
He said: “It’s going to be tough for them now. The problem for them is Finchampstead have the best batting line-up in the league.
“That won’t help them if they have to bowl them out cheaply.
“Amersham probably have the second best, but it’s much harder for the chasing team.
“The toss is going to be important, but my money is on Finchampstead.”
As for Chesham, they are now eyeing up second place after a fantastic first season in Division One.
They are just 15 points behind Amersham and a victory at Wokingham might be enough.
Turner, inset, said: “If we play well we’ve got a good chance of finishing above Amersham, but we just want to finish the job and end on a high now.”
Chesham threw the cat among the pigeons on with their second win of the season over Amersham.
Andy Goddard (40), Barnaby Atkins (35) and Jason Rance (33) helped them to 213-9, and once Tom Turner removed Amersham’s top three they were in total control.
The captain said: “It was just one of those days when everything came off for us.
“We thought our score was slightly under par, but the fact that Amersham desperately wanted to win and were under pressure to go out and get the runs made it a better score than it was.
“We felt if we could keep it tight at the start and then get their top three then we could get amongst them.
“We were able to take wickets regularly and stem the flow of runs.”
