Is this the best Wasps team since 2006?
BUCKS Free Press sports editor Alan Feldberg picks his all-time Wasps team.
Having covered Wasps since 2006, I have been privileged to see a huge array of talent at Adams Park. Picking my best team hasn’t been easy and there are an awful lot of players I could easily have included.
But this is it. Do you agree or have I left out your favourite?
Tell me your thoughts below or tweet @Alan_Feldberg.
PROP: Tim Payne - Not the most glamourous, but a club servant who put his body on the line for the club year after year.
HOOKER: Raphael Ibanez - One of the best hookers ever? Played with real passion. You’d want him in the trenches with you.
PROP: Phil Vickery - Like Ibanez, resurrected his career at Wasps and repaid the faith every time he took the field.
LOCK: Simon Shaw - Immense presence who didn’t get the recognition he deserved because of Martin Johnson. Fully appreciated by Wasps fans though.
LOCK: Joe Launchbury - England’s brightest emerging talent of the past 18 months. His career is moving at breakneck speed but he seems totally unfazed.
FLANKER: Joe Worsley - Snuffed out so many opposition attacks before they formed. At his best the best defensive six in world rugby.
FLANKER: Tom Rees - An unfulfilled talent, but anyone who can play like he did at Northampton in March 2010, after months injured, is a special talent.
NO 8: Lawrence Dallaglio - Mr Wasps. Their spiritual leader for nearly two decades.
SCRUM HALF: Joe Simpson - Eoin Reddan was a classy operator, but Simpson has forged his reputation in a much tougher era for the club.
FLY HALF: Danny Cipriani - Never mind what’s happened since he left Wasps, the player he was before his injury takes some beating.
WING: Tom Varndell - Overlooked by many, but he will end his career as the all-time top Premiership try scorer.
CENTRE: Riki Flutey - Faded towards the end of his Wasps career, but in 2007/08 he and Cipriani were the most exciting things in the Premiership.
CENTRE: Elliot Daly - Has already scored some incredible tries and has a booming left boot. Will be a sensation at centre or full back.
WING: Christian Wade - Dazzling speed and footwork has taken world rugby by storm. Only George North has made a bigger impact in recent years.
FULL BACK: Josh Lewsey - One of the few players who match Dallaglio for sheer force of will...and hit players like a wrecking ball.
