Chesham charging with four in a row
THE cream hasn’t taken long to rise in the Southern Premier League with Chesham already up to third place in the table, just two points off top.
After one point from the first six available, Andy Leese’s team have won four on the bounce to shoot up the table and the manager believes there is only good things to come.
He said: “There was a little bit of a knee jerk reaction to the first couple of games.
“But we’re now showing the all the hard work we did over the summer and heading in the right direction.
“Tuesday was an improvement on Saturday was an improvement on the previous two games.”
Steve Wales scored the only goal of the game at newly-promoted Hungerford on Saturday, before Chesham really clicked into gear with a 4-1 victory over Bashley on Tuesday evening.
New strikers Chris Dillon and Drew Roberts both netted in the victory, taking their tally between them to five in the league so far.
After losing top scorer Simon Thomas during the close-season, the form of his strikers is good news for Leese.
He said: “All my strikers are firing. They’ve all found the back of the net already with all types of goals.”
Centre back Lawrie Stewart is another summer arrival and has so far filled the boots of Rob Bartley very well.
Leese said: “We’re probably not missing anyone who left us during the summer.
“We moved quickly to replace them and so far, so good.
“I’m pleased with who has come in. Roberts and Dillon were probably quite well known to the players and Stewart not so well known.
“But I’m delighted with all three of them. They’ve all fitted in quite quickly and I’m very pleased with the balance and depth of the squad.
“Probably the hardest part of my job will be keeping those players who aren’t playing happy.
“But we’ve got a lot of games coming up and there will be an opportunity to play.”
Chesham host Truro City tomorrow.
