Blues boss Bartley on Southern mission
MARLOW FC might be eighth in Division One Central of the Southern League, but manager Mark Bartley is very clear about the targets this season.
They play AFC Hayes on Saturday in the only game in the division, and Bartley says it’s a chance to get three points further away from the drop zone.
He said: “It’s an opportunity to put some distance between ourselves and the bottom clubs.”
Marlow might reset their sights at Christmas though, if progress remains as serene.
They have followed promotion with two wins and three draws from six games and on Saturday became only the second team to stop Beaconsfield taking all three points with a 1-1 draw thanks to Ian Spence’s goal.
Bartley said: “We’d have taken that at the start. They’re a good side and you can see why they’ve made such a good start. They move the ball very quickly and have two good wingers that get to the byline.
“It was probably a fair result against a team that had won four of their first five games.”
Marlow will be up there with them though if they win tomorrow.
Bartley said: “We’re pleased with what we’ve done so far. It’s a solid start. It’s a steep learning curve and we’ve had some injuries, but there is still a lot we can do better.”
