Bucks bragging rights for Marlow in Croxson Cup
MARLOW continued their recent hockey dominance over High Wycombe by retaining the Croxson Cup on Saturday, winning five of the six games between the two clubs.
The Croxson Cup has been played between the two clubs since 1974 in memory of Brian and Derek Croxson, who played for both clubs.
This year the top five mens teams squared up while Marlow Ladies 2s met Wycombe Ladies 3s, with the aggregate score deciding the winners of the Croxson Cup.
Marlow 4s got the ball rolling with a 3-2 victory over their Bucks rivals, before Marlow Ladies edged Wycombe 1-0 thanks to a goal from Kate Porter.
Greg Tyler, Henry Cromie and an own goal further increased Marlow’s advantage as their fifth team ran out 3-0 winners.
However, their 7-2 overall advantage was sliced when Wycombe 3s hit back hard with a 5-2 triumph.
That made it 9-7 overall going into the top two matches, and Marlow increased their advantage when their second team overcame Wycombe 2-0 thanks to goals from Rob Gerritts and Aman Sood.
That left Wycombe’s first team an awful lot to do in the final match of the day, but again it was Marlow who ruled the roost with Alex Land’s hat-trick helping them to a 5-2 victory.
Jack Clee and Ed Kelleher were also on target as Marlow wrapped up the Croxson Cup 16-9.
