Saints evict Police from FA Cup
4:39pm Wednesday 18th September 2013 in Sport
CHALFONT St Peter hope Tuesday night’s FA Cup replay win over Met Police will be the spark their season needs.
Scott Fitzgerald scored the only goal of the game after 80 minutes to settle the tie, after Saturday’s game had finished 0-0.
It was at last some good news for Saints, who had been winless since the opening day of the Southern League Central Division season.
Since then four defeats and a draw have seen them sink to third from bottom in the table.
Manager Danny Edwards said: “It’s been a puzzle because we signed some real quality during the summer and had high hopes.
“But with so many new players, the bedding in process has taken longer than I expected and we’ve got four points out of 18, which is nothing like what I expected.
“We haven’t been scoring enough goals, but hopefuly we’ve turned the corner now.”
They go to Royston in the league tomorrow and will hope to continue their knock-out form when they host Lewes in The FA Cup second round qualifying on September 28.
