Judo club take two with double Masters victories
MICKLEFIELD Judo Club veterams Colin McKenna and Sam Dobrowolski set the standard for the club’s juniors by retaining their national titles for the second and third time respectively.
McKenna retained the British Masters M1 U73kg Championship in Kidderminster on Saturday, while Dobrowolski won F1 U63kg section.
It was her third successive triumph in that category.
She also gold in the open event, while Paul Pusey returned to the mat for first time in 15 years and battled to silver in the M3 U66kg group.
Meanwhile, Joe Chraniuk, Callum Saganowski and Chloe Dodge all competed inthe British Junior Championships on Sunday.
Chraniuk and Saganowski were fighting in the U42kg category, which had 35 entrants.
Both came through the pools stage to reach the last 16 and although they lost their first knockout fights, Saganowski moved into the repachage and rallied to finish seventh overall.
Elsewhere, Dodge won all three of her U28kg pools fights before losing in the semi-finals to the eventual winner.
She regrouped to take bronze, ranking her third in the 10-12 age group in the country.
