Marlow claim Bucks Cup with
MARLOW Hockey Club appear in fine fettle for the season ahead after claiming two cups in two weeks.
They remained unbeaten on their way to the Bucks Cup last weekend, just seven days after lifting the Croxson Cup at the expense of neighbours Wycombe.
The two clubs met again at Pound Lane in the first match of the Bucks Cup and this time Wycombe kept their rivals at bay with a 1-1 draw.
Dave Guys’ deflected shot gave Marlow the lead after five minutes but Wycombe international Liam Sanford levelled the scores from a penalty corner.
Marlow's own internationals Jack Clee and Rob Gerrits then helped them a 2-0 victory over Slough.
They were on course for a similar win over Aylesbury after another goal from Clee plus one from Dave Harding.
But an own goal from Marlow captain Kevin Chappell gave Aylesbury a lifeline and they took it with a deflected shot into the roof of the net.
However. Marlow snatched victory in the final minutes with Clee on target again.
It meant Marlow needed just a draw against Milton Keynes in their final game to take the cup, but they were in trouble when Milton Keynes, after three 0-0 draws, broke their duck against Marlow when Sam North scored an own goal.
But with ten minutes to go Owen Francis scored the crucial goal before Alex Land ended the day on a high note with an outrageous backhand goal to wrap up a 2-1 victory.
