Maroudas talks tough ahead of TKMMA title fight
WYCOMBE fighter Mike Maroudas is talking up his chances ahead of his first shot at a mixed martial arts title on Saturday night.
More than 800 fans are expected to pack into the High Wycombe Sports Centre to cheer on home favourite Maroudas as he takes on Rik Selvarjah for the lightweight belt.
He said: “I love fighting in Wycombe as I have a strong following of family and friends so I’m looking forward to knocking Rick out and wearing the belt around the town.”
Maroudas tops the bill in what is expected to be another sell out TKMMA show.
The mixed martial arts bandwagon has gone from strength to strength since it’s first show last November and chairman Jay Bacchus believes the fifth installment will be another blockbuster.
He said: “All the fighters have come a long way since TKMMA 1 in November 2012. We are on our fifth event now and our fans base is growing.”
Also on the bill is Wycombe welter-weight John Gilbert, who will take on Hayden Critchfield with the winner due to fight champion Matt Holland in November.
Holland said: “It would be an absolute honour to fight John Gilbert. I have a lot of respect for him and he’s an all round good guy, but when we’re in the cage it’s business.”
The first fight is at 7pm and tickets start at £30.
