Wasps prop lines up former team-mates
12:20pm Thursday 26th September 2013 in Sport
MATT Mullan will do something this weekend that he’s never done before – play against a former club.
The 26-year-old front rower moved to Wasps after eight seasons at Worcester and at 3pm on Saturday he’ll pack down against players and friends he’s locked arms with all his professional life.
He said: “I have never been in this position before as I have never had a former club to play against having spent all my time with Worcester before this year.
“So it is a bit of a strange feeling but I am trying to not think about it too much.
“It was always going to be big decision for me to leave Worcester as that was all I knew for eight years and I really enjoyed it there.
“But I just think it was the right time for me to experience something different and I thought that if I didn’t do it now I might not do it at all.
“And going to a new club helps freshen things up as everything is new, the training, the new faces, even the days off you have.
“So it helps to freshen everything up and I have enjoyed my time at Wasps so far and hopefully we can pick up a win somewhere and build some momentum.”
Three narrow losses have piled the pressure on his new club at the start of the season, but Mullan is hoping that home is where the heart is ahead of a first run out at Adams Park.
Mullan said: “It is funny because although it says we have had one game at home already this season the game against Worcester is our first real home game,” he added.
“It will be good to be back at Adams Park as I know that the boys had a good record at home last season and that can hopefully carry on.
“Playing at home is always easier and we need to pick up a win somewhere and hopefully our home fans can help us with that.”
