Marlow celebrate EH Cup giant-killing

MARLOW HC can apparently do no wrong this season.
Croxson Cup and Bucks Cup victories in the past two weeks were good, but they were just the horderves before a massive giant killing in the England Hockey Cup.
Canterbury were the victims, the same Canterbury that earn their bread and butter in the Premier Division alongside hockey institutions such as Beeston, Cannock, Reading, Surbiton and Wimbledon.
But Marlow were too much for them, winning 3-2 to book a trip to National League outfit Hampstead & Westminster on October 27.
It was a repeat of last season’s first round tie and a similar result looked on the cards when Canterbury went in front from a penalty stroke.
However, instead of accepting the inevitable, Marlow rallied and after forcing a string of corners they got their reward when Rohit Kapoor finished off from close range.
Marlow then built on that with Ed Kelleher on target after good build-up play from Alex Land.
That made it 2-1 at half time, and the interval didn’t disrupt Marlow’s rhythm.
They started the second period on the front foot and took the game by the scruff of the neck when Will Strang slotted home their third goal.
However, it wasn’t plain sailing from there. Matt Ashton was red-carded with 15 minutes to go and Canterbury rattled the home nerves with a second goal.
But a third wouldn’t come and at the end it was Marlow celebrating a famous scalp.
