Maroudas misses out on MMA belt
MIKE Maroudas failed in his attempt to win a mixed martial arts title in Wycombe last weekend.
The home favourite was up against Rick Selvarajah from Harrow for the TKMMA British Lightweight title, but he wasn’t able to send his fans home happy.
He said: “The fight didn’t go as planned, too many mistakes on the ground cost me. He knew he could only beat me on the floor and fair play to him it worked. My ground game needs a lot of work.”
Maroudas has not given up on his title ambitions though.
He said: “I would like to return in the new year. I’m going to work hard on my ground and I need to sharpen up my diet and head for the featherweight. Lightweight is too heavy for me.
“I’ll begin the cut to Featherweight and then look to make a run for the title.”
Maroudas’ bout topped the bill at TKMMA 5, which attracted more than 800 fans to the High Wycombe Sports Centre.
In other bouts, Hayden Critchfield beat John Gilbert to book a welterweight title fight with Matt Holland, while Stan Wilson won knockout of the night after stopping Ben Ingham in the first round.
TKMMA 6 takes place in November and is expected to be even bigger, with three title fights on the bill.
