Risborough: We can target promotions
12:10pm Friday 11th October 2013 in Sport
PRINCES Risborough RFC believe promotion is a realistic target this season after underlining their title credentials with a powerful 35-5 victory over Harwell.
The two clubs have followed similar paths in recent seasons with promotions and relegations, but on Saturday’s evidence it’s Risborough who have had the better summer after dropping out of the BB&O Premier last season.
Chairman Andy Emmett said: “There is a new look to the side, we’ve had a lot of good, young players come in and we’ve got a new head coach in Nick Kidby.
“We’ve obviously stepped down a level, but we’re playing well and that culminated on Saturday.
“I think we just wanted it more, but it was a good game to gauge where we are.”
Harwell were top at the start of play, but Risborough’s win has taken them above their opponents and level on points with new pacesetters Abingdon.
Emmett said: “There is definitely a change in standard between the leagues. Last season we could compete with three or four other clubs but it was really a step up to the rest.
“We’ve spent a couple of seasons basically getting beaten, but there is a lot more focus and organisation now.
“We’ve already come up against some good sides and beaten them – there is no reason why we can’t target promotion.”
