Wasps warned ahead of Italian trip
ITALIAN hooker Carlos Festuccia has warned his new Wasps team-mates not to expect an easy ride when they go to Viadana in the Amlin Challenge Cup tomorrow.
Viadana have been reformed this season after Aironi lost its license and Festuccia says they will be a tough nut to crack on home soil.
He said: “This is a big competition for Viadana and this will be one of the biggest games of their season.
“They will put out their strongest team and the crowd will make it a hostile atmosphere for us.”
Festuccia says Italian clubs are like French teams when it comes to home pride and Wasps will be in for a nasty shock if they lose their focus inside the 6,000-capacity Stadio Luigi Zaffanella.
He said: “It’s an important game for us because we are making mistakes every week.
“We need to improve our level and this could be an opportunity to do that, but it will be hard. We have to get our mentality right. We can’t treat it like a holiday.”
Director of rugby Dai Young said: “We need a bonus point win this weekend, it’s as simple as that.
“Without being disrespectful to Viadana, who we know won’t make it easy for us, if you have any ambitions of progressing in this competition you have got to go to Italy and get that good result in the bag.”
