Wasps up and running with Amlin demolition job
WASPS director of rugby Dai Young says Saturday's record win in Italy was the perfect start to their European campaign.
They thrashed Viadana 90-17, scoring 14 tries to boot to begin their Amlin Challenge Cup season on the front foot.
Young said: "I couldn't have asked for any more from the boys. They totally dominated from start to finish.
"Our set piece was very good, we had bite in our defence and we looked fluid in attack. Some of our passing was excellent and those passes that haven't been sticking for us the last few weeks started to do so really well."
Guy Thompson scored a hat-trick in the win while William Helu scored three times on debut and Jack Moates came off the bench to go over twice himself.
Young said: "We have a small squad so it was great to have a chance to give guys game time and many guys a debut. We need to do that when we can.
"Viadana were a very committed team and they didn't give up but we were too strong all over. We didn't expect the scoreline but we are delighted with that effort."
Wasps are back in action on Thursday night, when Bayonne come to Adams Park.
Young said: "This win will give the boys plenty of confidence and, in many ways, it was just what we needed.
"There were some excellent individual performances but this was all about us achieving as a team and getting that confidence into our attacking game."
