Chalfont out to build on Beaconsfield victory
CHALFONT St Peter FC hope Saturday’s first home win of the season will be a launchpad for their season, with manager Danny Edwards insisting they’re a much better side than they’re lowly league position suggests.
Saints edged Beaconsfield 2-1 with goals from Scott Fitgerald and Brian Haule, and Edwards hopes another win over bottom side Leighton Town on Saturday will continue the revival.
He said: “The result was far more important than the performance.
“We’ve played exceptionally well in some games and not got the results this season. Saturday wasn’t one of our better performances, we didn't really get going, but we came away with the three points.
“I’ve been saying to everyone that we’re a good side and should be an awful lot higher up the table, but as a manager you’re aware that you can’t keep saying that without getting the results.
“So Saturday was a relief, but it’s essential we get three points against Leighton to get some momentum together.”
Chalfont were beaten on penalties by Godalming in the League Cup last night, but Edwards rested a host of players for the game and says a few that came in have given him a selection headache.
