Young: I'd be thrilled if Launchbury and Wade stay with England
WASPS boss Dai Young says taking on Leicester Tigers next weekend without two of his brightest stars would be no hardship.
Joe Launchbury and Christian Wade could both be away with Stuart Lancaster’s England as they prepare for the autumn internationals.
And while Young admits he’d love to have them in his team to play Leicester at Adams Park Park on Sunday, he says international rugby comes first.
He said: “I’m hoping our two players don’t come back because that means they’re in the mix to play internationallly.
“It’s one of those where you don’t know what to wish for.
“It would be great to have them back and playing against the Tigers, but I want our boys to play internationally so I’d be thrilled if they don’t come back.”
Wasps have numbers in the second row to replace Launchbury, but if Wade is kept with England Wasps could be short out wide with Tom Varndell and James Bailey both injured.
William Helu is the obvious choice after scoring a hat-trick from the wing against Viadana, while Joe Simpson has played out wide when needs must.
Meanwhile, Elliot Daly is expected back to face Tigers.
Young said: “Elliot Daly should be back. I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t make it next week.”
