Marlow outlast Cheltenham
MARLOW RFC had to play for 95 minutes to finally register a valuable bonus-point victory that moves them into mid-table safety in South West 1 East.
They saw off Cheltenham 29-21 in a match that had just about everything.
The home team appeared to be on course for a routine win as George Jafari and Jo Kelleher both went over to make it 17-0 at half time.
Matt Saunders was away and clear for try number three at the start of the second half until play was called back for offside, and that decision proved pivotal.
Instead of trailing 24-0, the visitors rallied and two tries cut the gap to 17-14.
However, with the clock ticking past 85 minutes, Marlow were still favourites and when Saunders did go over for the third try that appeared to be that.
But the game was still not over.
There was still time for Saunders to break free and send centre Pete Lewis over for the bonus point after 89 minutes.
Incredibly, the game continued for another five minutes though, with Cheltenham crossing for a third time themselves in a marathon match.
Marlow go to Devizes on Saturday before the leaders Oxford Harlequins come to Riverwoods at the start of November.
