Marlow book Burnham tie
THERE is little more than a hefty goalkick between them, but there will be no love lost when Marlow and Burnham cross swords in the next round of the FA Trophy a week on Saturday.
Marlow booked their place in the hat last Saturday with a thumping 4-1 victory on Satover North Leigh, who are top of the Southern League South & West and arrived in Buckinghamshire on the back of an eight-game winning run.
But two goals from Jon Bennett and two more from Ben Gladwin put them to the sword.
Marlow manager Mark Bartley said: “It was a brilliant result against a side that is top of their table.
“They’re unbeaten in seven or eight matches and came to us with a lot of confidence, but we played brilliantly.”
Burnham will be another step up though.
Bartley said: “They’re a good side who won the league last year and will fancy their chances against us.
“They are where we want to be, but we do our homework on our opponents and will be prepared.
“We’re in the lowest tier in this competition, but if we can get through a couple of rounds it would raise a bit of money and it would be nice to give something back.
“We’ll go at it full tilt.”
Meanwhile, Marlow were beaten 2-1 by Slough last night with Danny Linwood their scorer.
On Saturday they go to Dunstable Town.
