ANDY Leese had challenged his players to prove why they’re a top of the table team when they face three huge league fixtures in seven days.

An unbeaten run stretching back to mid-September ended last Tuesday and defeat followed defeat as Hungerford knocked them out of The FA trophy with a 2-0 victory on Saturday.

However, Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday fixtures against Burnham, Hungerford again and then Frome give Chesham a perfect rallying opportunity.

Leese said: “We’ve got to prove why we are where are, starting this week.

“We’ve got three big games and we will need to take most of the points to stay where we are.

“We’re still creating chances, but we’re just in a little run where we’re not taking them.

“But I am confident it will come again. We are all experienced and the players are too good.”

Chesham are still two points clear of Hemel Hempstead, but successive defeats mean they have no margin for error.

Leese said: “We’ve been playing under pressure since the start of the season. There is more now we’re top of the table but we’ve got to handle it.

“We might need a different approach or different players to spark us off again and I’m sure two or three players that have been on the fringes will get a chance against Burnham.”

However, the cup loss last weekend was a bitter pill to swallow.

Chesham dominated possession and in the first half in particular created three glorious chances to take control.

However, they were all missed and Hungerford made them pay a heavy toll.

Leese said: “I’m bitterly disappointed. The chances fell to the players who usually take them and they haven’t.

“But credit to Hungerford. They’ve got a hunger and intensity about them lately and played as they have been playing.”
