ANTHONY Stewart ended the week on a high and said he's now confident he can score a goal every time he stepped onto the pitch.

He bagged a last minute equaliser against Portsmouth on Wednesday night, having only been able to play after having the red card he was shown on Saturday rescinded.

That means he's now Wycombe's joint third highest scorer with four and the goalscoring knack is now starting to come naturally to him.

The 21-year-old said: "It's something I believe I can do normally. Every week I go in thinking I'll score. I didn't believe I'd have four but I always believed I'd score goals because I did used to in the youth team.

"I didn't actually get to do the celebration I wanted to do because the boys jumped on me, but it was brilliant celebrating together."

Having had his red card overturned on appeal Stewart actually started Wednesday's game on the bench and he admitted: "It was difficult to take but anyone who comes in, you know they'll put in a shift.

"Nobody likes getting sent off, so coming on to score today was brilliant."

Asked for his view on the red card, Stewart said: "My opinion is I got the ball. The referee makes the decision, which referees do. Maybe he saw something different at speed, but slowing it down I definitely got the ball first so I'm happy to have won the appeal."

Meanwhile Gary Doherty believes Anthony Stewart has all the attributes needed to be a good central defender.

He said: "He's doing terrifically. He's been in good form. He has pace and good physical strength, which are good assets if you want to be a good centre half. He showed fantastic desire getting on the end of the corner."

Referring to Stewart's red card, Doherty added: "Being a defender, things like that are likely to happen. You make one silly tackle and you get sent off, although it got overturned. That's the life of a centre half."
