Seven-try Wasps find their groove

Bucks Free Press: Charlie Hayter Charlie Hayter

WASPS haven’t recaptured the try-scoring form of last season this time around, but in France on Saturday night there were echoes of their devilish best with seven tries scored and five of them from the backs.

Centre Charlie Hayter scored two of them along with Jack Moates, Josh Bassett and Will Helu.

He said: “We scored some good tries by getting width on it as well so it was pleasing, and we scored some really good team tries.

“Our attacking game has stuttered a bit this season but we were very good off first phase and scored from that as well so it was really positive all round.”

Back rower Guy Thompson scored twice as well, taking his tally to seven in 12 games.

Hayter said: “It’s a great result for us. It is always difficult to come over to France and win and all credit to how we dug in in attack and defence.

“We got off the line quickly and our defence was really solid throughout the game.”
