BEACONSFIELD RFC haven’t given up on promotion after their 50-5 victory over London Nigerian, but head coach Simon Tattersall has warned his player they are walking a tightrope from now on.

Successive losses to the top two sides sent them tumbling down the table, but they responded with maximum points last weekend and Tattersall says another five-pointer against Hemel Hempstead on Saturday will keep them in the hunt.

He said: “I said we wanted ten points by Christmas so we’re halfway there.

“We need one more big push before Christmas because those five points are really important to us.

“We need them to stay in contention but I’ve told the players we’re treading a tightrope – one more mistake and we’re out of it.”

Beaconsfield found their form in the second half last weekend to avoid just that sort of mistake.

Despite hosting a team that could could only just field a side, they were only 12-0 ahead at half time, with work to do to secure the bonus.

Tattersall said: “On the back of two games against the league leaders, that intensity wasn’t there. We went off our game plan and were very poor.

“But there are times to rant and rave and Saturday wasn’t one of them. It was very calm. We knew if we put our game together we’d win easily.”

And so it proved, with four tries coming from the front row alone as Kwong Lin went over alongside a hat-trick from hooker Fred Witton.

Ed Waugh, Andy Zair and Paul Trendell also touched down in a victory that was suitably one-sided by the end.
