AMERSHAM & Chiltern RFC bounced back from three losses in a row with a bonus-point victory over Weston-Super-Mare to leapfrog their hosts into seventh place in National League 3 South West.

They scored four tries in a 25-5 win and, but for missed kicks, the margin would have been even greater.

Matt Gilbert kicked them into an early 3-0 lead and minutes later had an opportunity to add another three points.

His kick sailed wide this time, but from the restart Man of the Match Danny Samuels secured ball for Amersham and, after an attacking 5m scrum, he drove over for his first try for the club.

Gilbert couldn’t add the extras, and 8-0 became 8-5 when the home team found a gap to cros themselves.

The response, however, was immediate. Chiltern’s forwards charged downfield and full-back Chris Jack joined the line to fly over for a second try.

Gilbert was again wayward off the tee, and Weston-Super-Mare were encouraged by the let off as they surged forwards for their best spell of the game.

However, Amersham held them out despite losing number eight Adam Henderson to the sin bin.

And once back to full strength, they pulled away with Sam Portland going over under the posts after a powerful scrum from the visitors.

Gilbert did convert this time to make it 20-5, and a good afternoon became a great one with five minutes left when Portland went over again to secure the bonus point.

Amersham are away to Avonmouth Old Boys on Saturday before hosting Buckingham in the Bucks Cup Final on December 21.
